Popcorn ceilings, Blue Toilets, & Big Dreams

hen we first walked into this house, it had plenty of potential—and we had a vision to make it our own. The only issue was that it looked like it hadn’t been updated in decades, and every room had popcorn ceilings and old-school finishes that desperately needed to be modernized.

Luckily, the bedrooms were a good size and didn’t need much. We kept it simple—scraped the popcorn, put down new flooring, threw on a fresh coat of paint, and updated the light fixtures. Just those few changes totally transformed the vibe. It’s amazing what a little refresh can do.

Originally, this place had four bedrooms—but we figured, do we really need that fourth one? Instead, we decided to steal the closet space from that bedroom and the original pantry space to expand the kitchen. Totally worth it! It gave us more room to breathe, better storage, and just an overall better layout than the extremely closed off kitchen space. With the sacrifice of that closet, we used that bedroom and turned it into a cute little office space, which turned out perfect for a new realtor. 💁🏻‍♀️ It’s got just the right amount of space to make deals happen, keep organized, and stay inspired.

Speaking of the kitchen... it was our main priority from day one. Like I mentioned, it was super small, closed off, and just didn’t work for how we wanted to live in the space. We knew we wanted something open, inviting, and way more functional. There wasn't room for a proper dining table, so we had to get a little creative with the layout—and let’s just say, the island became the MVP. It’s going to be the perfect spot for meals, coffee chats, and maybe a little real estate deal or two. I can’t wait to share the photos once it’s all finished!

Moving on to the hall bathroom-- lets just say it definitely had a personality. Between the vintage blue toilet, the turf-like green carpet, and a shower surround featuring an actual mural of a fountain, it felt like a whimsical garden escape—just indoors and very, very permanent. While we appreciated the creativity, we knew it was time for a refresh. We updated everything with clean finishes, a new vanity and cabinet, a classic white toilet, and a simple white surround that still feels a little more 2025.

This past weekend we were able to move in (somewhat) and at least our stuff is halfway in boxes in the garage and scattered throughout the house. We finally got to stay overnight for the first time on Monday night. It was so nice and we all slept like rocks! Except for the 2:00 AM yelling of the donkey resulting in the dog jumping out of the bed to go yell back! LOL We are looking forward to another weekend FULL of work getting everything unpacked and decorated and finally relax!
